Local Marine Killed - Brevard NC


Lance Cpl. Randall Buford, a U.S. Marine and a 2009 graduate of Brevard High School, was found dead in Jacksonville, N.C., Friday night after being allegedly murdered by a fellow Marine.

The 21-year-old Buford was found shortly after 9:45 p.m. after officers were dispatched to the Liberty Crossing Apartments following reports of an unknown disturbance.

After reaching the location, Buford was found dead, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The Jacksonville Police Department has since charged Lance Cpl. Marcus Bo Hunt, 19, with an open count of murder. Hunt is currently being held without bond.

Both Buford and Hunt were rifleman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

According to official reports, Buford joined the Marine Corps on Dec. 13, 2010 and was promoted to his current rank in September 2011.

Buford was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from January to June 2012. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.

As of this morning, Jacksonville Police said they had no new information regarding the investigation and at this time there was no apparent motive for the crime.
