The Stick That Really Grew

 


A few years ago, I purchased a 2-foot green elderberry stick from a nursery at the annual Organic Growers School in Asheville.

“Stick it in the ground,” I was told, “and it will grow.”

I stuck my stick in the ground and it grew into a beautiful elderberry tree. Every year I prune it to keep the berries growing where I can reach them without a ladder.
