Pre-K Changes On The Radar - Brevard NC

 


A new bill moving through the N.C. House would tighten the requirements for low-income families to enroll their children in NC Pre-K, a nationally lauded pre-kindergarten program.

House Bill 935, sponsored by Rep. Justin Burr, a Republican from Albemarle, would change NC Pre-K eligibility from 200 percent of the federal poverty line ($39,000 for a family of three) to 100 percent of the poverty line ($19,530).

The bill would cut the number of children eligible for the program in half, from roughly 60,000 to 31,000.
