Bill Harms Children


Members of the North Carolina General Assembly say they are helping children, but their actions say otherwise. The latest legislation to make it more difficult for some children to succeed educationally, House Bill 935, would cut in half the number of children eligible for the state’s pre-kindergarten program. It would reduce the number of eligible children from 60,000 to 31,000.

Children whose parents make between $19,350 (100 percent of the federal poverty level) and $39,000 (200 percent of the poverty level and now the current cutoff point) would no longer be eligible for the program...
