Several BC Creekside Summer Education Classes Have Openings – Brevard NC

Spaces are available in three technology classes, including Basic Mac (Mac 101); iPad, Part 2 – Even More to Learn; and Staying Safe Online. Openings are also available in Waterfall Digital Photography and Great Turnings of Human History. Each of the non-credited classes is open to the community.

Basic Mac (Mac 101) offers beginning Mac users, Windows (Microsoft) converts, new and non-computer users a basic, down-to-earth, understandable, non-geek instruction on the basics of computing with a Mac (Apple computer) using Mountain Lion OS 10.8, Apple’s most recent upgrade to the operating system. No prior computer experience is required and no computer is required for class. A large screen will be used during the demonstration. Classes, which are taught by LiB Shore, meet Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:40-11:40 a.m. July 30 through Aug. 23. The cost is $110.

ipad, Part 2 – Even More to Learn is designed for iPad users who are ready to learn even more about the Apple apps that come with their iPad, including Mail, Contacts, Calendar, using media via iTunes and iBooks, Facetime, iMessage and Photos, plus Pages for word processing. Some prior iPad use is necessary. A large screen will be used during the demonstration. The two-hour class, which is taught by LiB Shore, meets from 9:40 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30. The cost is $25.

Stay Safe Online covers the basics of how to increase overall security online, protect private information, manage passwords, control and secure email as well as other pro-active measures to ensure ease-of-mind while online. A large screen will be used during the demonstration. The two-hour class, which is taught by LiB Shore, meets from 9:40-11:40 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27. The cost is $25.

Waterfall Digital Photography examines several technical options for creating waterfall portraits. Participants will carpool to picturesque waterfalls for professionally supervised opportunities to capture their magnificence. Digital and conventional photographers are welcome. Participants must provide their own camera, tripod (if available), and film with an ASA lower than 400. The class, led by Ted Flagg, meets Mondays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 12-26. The cost is $50.

Great Turnings of Human History offers an informal lecture-style class on how human history has been marked by four great turnings that irrevocably have changed the course of humanity. The class will examine these historical landmark turnings as well as what the future may hold for humanity. Questions are permitted during the presentation. Additionally, there will be time for discussion during each class. Led by Earle Rabb, the class will meet from 3-5 p.m. on Aug. 6-27. The cost is $50.
