Our Cats Eat Our Birds

 


In January the online research journal Nature Communications published the first peer-reviewed study that demonstrates the vast number of birds and small mammals killed by domestic cats in the U.S. This is based on a review of 90 previous studies and was authored by the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. No longer a shot-in-the-dark guess, it is now estimated that 2.4 billion birds are killed each year by domestic cats.
