Not all children have been bored during this rainy, soggy summer. Last week, 24 campers from seven states, as well as, Japan, Germany and the U.S. Virgin Islands came together to play in the clay.

Mountain Roots hosted its first week of pottery camp at the Transylvania Community Arts Center. Instructors Ali Lien and Kim Skeen were impressed with the creativity and open- mindedness of campers at both sessions. Campers learned the basics of various methods of working with clay, including pinch, coil, slab, and sculpture. The older campers in the afternoon session got to give the potters wheel a shot. Several students quickly learned the tricks of the wheel and were throwing on their own by the end of the week.

Mountain Roots is running another pottery camp from July 22-26 at TCARTS and limited spaces are still available. More information about Mountain Roots is available along with the registration forms at www. MountainRoots.org.

To reserve a spot, contact TCARTS at (828) 884-2787.
