Expert Warns About The Threat Of Landslides - Brevard NC

The U.S. Geological Survey provided this photo of an area in western North Carolina showing the aftermath of a 6-foot-deep landslide.

With more than 75 inches of rain already recorded this year and deluges expected to continue for the foreseeable future, a western North Carolina geologist warns that landslides are a real threat for the area.

“With the above average rainfall that we have, when we have these storms that dump several inches of rain over a short period time, it doesn’t take a huge storm to trigger a debris flow or landslide,” said Rick Wooten, a senior geologist with the N.C. Geological Survey.
