McMinn Built City's Commerce – Brevard NC

 

The McMinn Building and McMinn House of West Main Street. The house was torn down and additional section (today Celestial Mountain Music) was added to the building around 1905.

Nathan Van Buren McMinn arrived in Transylvania County after the county was created and quickly became one of its leading citizens. McMinn married Elizabeth England, daughter of one of Brevard’s founding fathers, in 1870.

A former store clerk, McMinn came to Brevard to operate his own business. For many years he had a store on the south side of West Main Street. The McMinns built a large home across the street, less than a block from the courthouse. They raised four children there. The home also served as a hotel for travelers and summer residents.
