Since 1956, the week of Sept. 17-23 has been set aside to celebrate the United States Constitution.

That tradition began in 1955 when the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) petitioned the U.S. Congress to create a week commemorating the establishment of the Constitution as the supreme law of our nation. Congress adopted the DAR resolution and it was signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956.

This year several events will take place in Brevard during Constitution Week, according to Pam Harrison, Constitution Week chairman for the Waightstill Avery Chapter DAR.
