Book Preserves WWI Veterans' Service


In honor of Transylvania County World War I veterans, Jan Plemmons, a seasonal resident of Lake Toxaway and self-proclaimed history buff, has produced "I'm In The Army Now," a 508-page book documenting all those who enlisted in the county during the conflict.

More than 470 residents, including two women, enlisted in Transylvania, but many were not county natives but were loggers or were employed in the tanneries.
