'Transylvania Rocks,' Says Pantry Manager – Brevard NC

Pisgah Forest Rotary members, friends and family were joined at the Courthouse gazebo by Sharing House volunteers and Don Debiase of WSQL, who did a live broadcast from the gazebo as food poured in to help the county's needy families.

It was an "all hands" affair Saturday at local grocery stores and the courthouse gazebo, as Pisgah Forest Rotary, WSQL and Sharing House teamed up again to Pack The Pantry.

It was a tired but happy crew that posed on the truck's ramp after the last delivery was collected, sorted and loaded. Bright and early Monday, Rotarians and students from Davidson River School turned out with Coach Siniard to unload and weigh the donated food.

Rotarians' families and Sharing House volunteers staffed the gazebo to collect and sort donations from passing cars.

Meanwhile, other volunteers drove their cars to the grocery stores, where they picked up donations collected by representatives from local churches.

This is a twice a year event for Rotary and WSQL. A typical food drive pulls in around 5,000 or 6,000 pounds, but this one dwarfed those, collecting 10,750 pounds of food and $4,649 in cash donations.

An astonished Marion Latham, who manages the Sharing House pantry, could only say, "this community rocks!" She added that the continuing generosity of our community is truly amazing in this time of great need.
