David Price Allred M.D.

David Price Allred M.D., of Sherwood Forest, in Brevard, passed on Dec. 7, 2013.

He was born Jan. 29, 1939 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

A born athlete, he attended Crockett Elementary and Wichita Falls High, where he excelled and lettered in baseball and football. He made all-state tailback, leading his team to state championship playoffs on two consecutive years.

He was captain of the football team, president of the senior class, and an honor student.

He graduated from Tulane University in 1962, and Baylor Medical School in 1966. His residency was at Denver General Hospital in 1971.

He served in the Vietnam War as army battalion surgeon and was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroics.

He married Rella Brooks of Austin, Texas in 1963.

In Greenwood, S.C., he practiced medicine with Dr. Richard Christian and Dr. Percy Stokes. He also practiced with the medical school of South Carolina, opening clinics at Beaufort Air Force Station and the United States Army Hospital, while living on Fripp Island, in South Carolina.

Later, he was director of the Saluda, N.C. Medical Center, where he moved. In 1988, he was a founding director of Greenwood Bank and Trust (re-named Capital Bank), and chairman of the board until 2008.

In 2005, he moved to Brevard, where he served on the Finance Committee and chaired the Advisory Golf Committee of the Sherwood Forest Home Association, until his death.

He was instrumental in having the golf course agronomically modernized, bringing in golf pro managers and revenue ventures such as llama caddies, and competitive golf activities.

He married Dr. KAE (Karol) Kiermeyer, of Laguna Beach, Calif., in 2007, and joined the Glade Creek Baptist Church in Pisgah Forest, where he served faithfully and diligently in Job Corps and Brevard College outreach, student tutoring, men's ministry, and other church programs.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, KAE (Karol); two daughters, Catherine Stone, of Easley, S.C., and Joy (Neil) Grayson, of Taylors, S.C .; one brother, Ivan (Diane) Allred, of Edmond, Okla .; three grandchildren, Benjamin Grayson, Chavis Stone, and Brooks Grayson; three nephews; one niece; two great-nieces; four great-nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Services for Dr. Allred will be held at Glade Creek Baptist Church, in Pisgah Forest, at 4 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 12, 2013.
