School Vouchers: No Accountability


Earlier this month, the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) filed a lawsuit against the state for passing legislation that allows parents to spend taxpayers’ money to send their children to private schools. The practical reason for the lawsuit is that public schools, which are now funded at a lower per capita rate than they were before the Great Recession, will lose at least $10 million this year and more in the future. Their legal argument is that the state constitution says public money must go exclusively to public schools.
