Anna Regina "Nancy" Dowling


Anna Regina “Nancy” Dowling, 80, of Hendersonville, and former resident of Brevard and Bradenton, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1933 to the late Joseph W. and Mary Miner McCabe. Her husband, John R. Dowling, and five siblings, Dick, Joseph, Billy, and Edward McCabe and Dolores Newport preceded her in death.

She was a lifetime lover of animals, especially dogs, and opened her own dog grooming business, Jonann’s Poodle Salon, in the late 1960s, which she maintained until retiring at the age of 69. Additionally, she received her GED at the age of 44, graduated as an LPN from Manatee Vocational and Technical School in 1980, and worked fulltime at Suncoast Nursing Home for 10 years.

She was an avid reader and a beautiful singer. She delighted in handcrafted things and was rarely seen without a crochet hook in hand. She was a wonderful cook, and had a particular talent for making soups.

She is survived by six children, John R. and wife, Cyndi, of Bradenton, Fla., David A. and wife, Carol, of Northville, Mich., Desiree A. Perry and husband, Alan, of Brevard, Dee J. Barr and husband, Sam, of Bradenton, Fla., Mary I. Collazo and husband, Luis, of Bradenton, Fla., and Joseph H. and wife, Katrina, of Hendersonville. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and has two great-grandchildren on the way.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Brevard Community Church in Brevard.

The family will receive friends at 10 am.
