County Growth Stalls

 


After decades of growth in the past Transylvania County’s population has stagnated over the past several years, according to recent numbers from the U.S. Census.

Although the county’s population increased from 29,334 in 2000 to an estimated 32,903 in 2013 (an increase of about 12.2 percent) the population has decreased 0.6 percent since 2010 when there were an estimated 33,090 residents.

Compared to neighboring counties Henderson (2.6 percent), Haywood (0.2 percent) and Jackson (1.6 percent), Transylvania was the only county to see a decrease in population since 2010.
