Now Is Time For A 'Warm Up' Food Drive – Brevard NC


Sharing House pantry volunteer Jane Kimball of Sherwood Forest takes a case of peanut butter from the storeroom to be shared with clients receiving food assistance. These shelves ought to be stuffed with all kinds of foods - cans of beef stew and pork and beans, macaroni and cheese mixes, cereals and other foods. It's one thing to point out that every fifth home has a hungry family. It's quite another to tell the stories that are hidden within those numbers.

Take for instance an older woman who came to us recently for the first time. She lives alone now, but she was a caregiver in the health field for 28 years, working 40-hour weeks while raising two children all on her own. A grandmother now, she lives on her Social Security check, a mere $1,020 per month. Just like everybody else, her monthly bills are about housing and utilities, gas for the aged car, doctor visits and prescriptions, and the occ...
