Fun, food, music and activities for all ages will be part of “Celebrating Silvermont: A Family Festival” June 21 at Silvermont park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A silent auction to benefit Silvermont park’s repairs and improvements has been launched on Facebook and will culminate in bidding at the Family Festival. (See the accompanying list of silent auction items.)

“We are grateful to all the businesses and individuals who have donated so many wonderful items,” said Patti Coblentz, a member of the Silvermont Centennial Committee’s event team, which is organizing the festival and silent auction.

“The items are exceptional and offer a wide variety of choices from a fly-fishing trip guided by Woody Platt to beautifully crafted bird houses to a Hunger Games tour for a family of four.”

Items include outdoor adventures, jewelry, art, personal care splurges, cooking classes, a plane ride over Transylvania County, tickets to Mountain Song Festival, and more.

New items are being added each week up to the June 21 event.

All proceeds from the festival and silent auction will go towards repairs and improvements at Silvermont park.

The Silvermont Centennial Committee has formulated a $2 million strategic plan of projects for Silvermont park. The committee’s hope is that these projects can be completed by 2017 when the historic Silvermont mansion turns 100 years old.

The June 21 Family Festival will include food vendors, retail vendors, musicians, games for children, treats on the porch and many other events throughout the day. The event is free and open to all.

“We will be sharing more festival details soon, but we wanted to be sure everyone knows about the silent auction items now,” said Coblentz.
