Last updated 6/4/2014 at 1:19pm
Transylvania County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers invite the public to join them for their June meeting to hear about the benefits of mulching in your garden. The EMGV Meeting will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the Cooperative Extension Office on 98 E. Morgan Street in Brevard. The guest speaker will be Kathy Zimmerman, a local landscape designer. Zimmerman, owner of Wildwood Design, designs gardens in the mountains of Western North Carolina and Brevard. In 2003, she completed a landscape design degree at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After she moved to the Brevard area in 2004, she joined the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Class of 2005, and she has been an active participant in the program ever since.
Zimmerman designed and helped implement the Master Gardener Woodland and Learning Gardens behind the Silvermont mansion. Her involvement with the Master Gardeners on this project led to her early involvement with the Silvermont Strategic Planning Group. As part of this effort, she conducted a grounds study and developed a master plan for Silvermont park. She continues to work with the Silvermont Centennial Committee, as they work to implement the plan.
Zimmerman’s love of native plants and the natural environment highly influence her designs, and when she isn’t working, she is Hiking and enjoying the mountains.
