Last updated 6/4/2014 at 2:09pm

Head coach Frank Rogers and the Brevard College women’s lacrosse team has announced Penina Fungalei, Caitlyn Nemeth, Sydney Alencewicz and Hnina Siu-Ayun as four additional signees for the lady Tornados.

Penina Fungalei is coming to BC from Euless, Texas. The 5-11 midfielder and defender played lacrosse, cross country and volleyball while at Trinity High School. Fungalei was named team captain for her final season with the Trojans after being named offensive MVP for the 2013 season.

“Nina brings us a strong offense and defense with very good leadership,” coach Rogers says, “She will be a very good addition in the middle of the field, and we are looking for her to help us control the draw circle.”

Attacker Caitlyn Nemeth will join the Tornados from Old Bridge, New Jersey. Her accomplishments as team MVP in 2013 and offensive player-of-the-year from 2011-2013 will anchor the attack zone for BC. Nemeth was also named All-Conference Team A from 2011-2013 and All-Area Team A in 2012 and 2013. During the fall, Caitlyn also transitioned some of her stick skills over to field hockey.

“Caitlyn comes to us from one of the strongest areas in the country, her ability to finish and her strong team play will be a big asset for us on our attacking end.”

Sydney Alencewicz will be one of the dual athletes stepping on to campus this fall and will play soccer and lacrosse for the Tornados. Sydney received second team all-metro for lacrosse while also being on first team all-metro for soccer.

She has been involved with the student athletic training program and started a spirit club in her high school. The National Honors Society member will play defense for soccer and lacrosse this season.

“Sydney’s athletic ability will be a big boost for us. Her experience in soccer has helped her become a very good defender in lacrosse. Her ability to see the field and markup will help make our defense very strong.”

Hnina Siu-Ayun is the last addition for this group of four. The attack player received a varsity letter for her participation on the Northwest Guilford High team and also participated in basketball and track. Hnina is in the National Arts Honors society for her school and received the Teacher’s Choice Award after interning for her health science II class this year.

“Nina’s a strong athletic player who will fit in very well with our team. She is very hard working and her attitude will be a very good addition to our program.”
