Tour Set For Chestnut Hill – Brevard NC

The Transylvania Coun-ty Historical Society invites the public to attend the Chestnut Hill House and Garden Tour Saturday, June 21, from 2-4 p.m.

The house and gardens of Chestnut Hill sit on 40 acres above the French Broad River. Officially known as the Hanckel-Barclay House, Chestnut Hill was built in 1856 by Rev. James Hanckel of Charleston and last owned by the Joseph Barclay family beginning in 1909.

This National Register property is an example of mid-nineteenth century Greek Revival architecture.

Vacant for 10 years, it has been meticulously restored by hosts Neil and Rosalie Morr...
