Bennetts Celebrate 61st Wedding Anniversary

Jeanene and Joseph Bennett, 1953

Jeanene and Joseph Bennett, of Brevard, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary during the week ending Aug. 23, 2014, at the Windsor Boutique Hotel in Asheville.

They met on a blind date in May 1949 during their sophomore year at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla. Five years later, Aug. 22, 1953, they were married, beginning, in their words, "a life of adventure together," including 25 years with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, in the states and in various other countries, including three years in Saudi Arabia; and, after retirement, several years of living and cruising on their boat.

In 1989 they built a home in Transylvania County and, after 25 years here, are now happily settled at College Walk in Brevard.

They had two children, who shared much of the "adventure," William David Bennett (deceased), Carol B. Rowley, of Savannah, Ga., and two grandchildren, Erin Stoner and Danielle Rowley, both of Savannah.
