Planning For Mansion Milestone - Brevard NC

The centennial celebration of Silvermont Mansion may be more than two years away, but a local group of volunteers has been making sure one of Transylvania County's most historically significant homes will look as good as new when 2017 rolls around.

The Silvermont Centennial Committee was formed nearly three years ago to develop a strategic plan, raise money and make improvements to the Silvermont grounds and home, which was built by industrialist Joseph Silversteen. The family's last surviving daughter, Dorothy Silversteen Berg, willed the 33-room Colonial Revival mansion to the citizens...
