The Lady Blue Devils, led by pitcher Casey Gilbert, won their fourth straight shutout Friday, avenging an early loss to Smoky Mountain with a 4-0 win.

Brevard scored a run in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings to cruise to victory.

Nijayah Cruell singled, advanced on a sacrifice by Mac McNiel and stole third for Brooke Nanney, who hit into an RBI fielder's choice.

In the second inning, Abby Williams reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a double to left center field by Lexi McDowell.

In the fifth, McNiel singled and came around to score on a double to right field by Nanney.

Callie Green followed with a single, but both runners were stranded on base.

Meleah Owens opened the sixth inning with a single, moved over on a sacrifice by McDowell, and scored on an RBI by Gilbert.

Nanney led the Lady Blue Devils with a 2-for-2 effort, driving in two runs.

Gilbert was 1-for-4 with an RBI, while McDowell was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

McNiel and Maykayla McNeill were each 1-for-3. McNiel scored a run.

The Lady Tigers are now 17-3 overall, 9-3 in the WNC Athletic Conference.

The Lady Blue Devils are just a half-game behind Franklin, but the Lady Panthers have beaten Brevard twice this season.

The Lady Blue Devils travel to North Henderson Wednesday before going to Canton to face first-place Pisgah Thursday. The Lady Blue Devils beat the Sugar Bears 9-3 on April 14 in an emotionally-charged contest that is Pisgah's lone blemish in their conference standings.
