Nepotism is the practice of those in power of favoring friends or relatives, especially when it comes to handing out jobs.

Nepotism in the State of North Carolina is defined as (State Human Resources Manual, sec. 2, page 35, revised Jan. 1, 2014) “All agencies shall select from the pool of the most qualified persons to fill vacant positions. Employment shall be offered based upon job-related qualifications of applicants for employment using fair and valid selection criteria and not on political affiliation or political influence.”
