The decision by the General Assembly to ban anyone under 18 from using a tanning bed was the right call. Long term it should decrease the number of people who have skin cancer.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, individuals 30 and younger who use tanning beds increase by 75 percent their chance of getting melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. People who use tanning beds are also 2.5 times more likely to have squamous cell carcinomas and 1.5 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinomas.
