New Elections Board Sworn In For Two-Year Terms - Brevard NC

The Transylvania County Board of Elections was sworn in last Tuesday for a two-year term by Rita Ashe, clerk of Superior Court.

The board has two returning Republican members, Chairman David Morrow and Secretary John Barker.

The new board member is Democrat Sara Champion.

Board members are appointed by the State Board of Elections after recommendations by the state Republican and Democratic parties.

The Board of Elections is charged with providing fair and accurate election services for the citizens of Transylvania County through the Director of Elections and other professional staff members.

One of the board’s key responsibilities is the appointment of precinct officials to work at each polling location on election days.

The board selects individuals for these positions from recommendations by the chairman of each local political party.

The board urges all Transylvania County citizens who are registered voters to consider serving as a precinct official.

The last group of precinct officials had 22 people — ages 18 to 60, 42 people ages 61 to 70, and 51 people ages 71 and over.

Those interested in or having questions about becoming a precinct official should contact the Board of Elections office at (828) 884-3114; Republican chairman, Aubrey Woodard, at (828) 577-0220; or Democratic chairwoman, Jackie Hovey, at (828) 884-8647.
