My name is Donna Wilde and I have the honor of serving as principal of Davidson River School. After 35 years in public education, I still get excited about students and staff returning each fall! I love the personal challenge of finding new and exciting learning opportunities for students and building new partnerships with community and families.

I have been residing in Transylvania County now for 16 years, and sincerely enjoy serving the school and community. For seven years, I served as principal of Brevard Middle School and now begin my 10th year at Davidson River School. Over the years, I worked with younger brothers and sisters of my current students and have the pleasure of continuing strong relationships with their families. I look forward to the new year of challenges, celebrations and successes, and strive to bring in fresh energy, ideas and resources to benefit our school community.

The role of Davidson River School is unique – to help students get back on track to graduate on time. As a "School of Alternatives," Davidson River School offers smaller class size, alternative assessments, credit recovery options, on-line courses and active learning strategies to help students overcome obstacles to learning, yet maintains the same high academic standards of Transylvania County Schools. Our dynamic staff strives to engage learners and their families for the success of each student. Since no two students are alike, each student is considered individually, scheduled according to strengths and needs, and connected to resources to support individual goals.

On a personal note, I am married to Dennis Wilde and we have six grandchildren. I grew up on Lake Erie, not far from Buffalo, N.Y. I received degrees from the State University College at Buffalo and University of Maryland in Special and Elementary Education and taught for 10 years before becoming a school administrator. Working in Transylvania County has been a pleasure and I invite you to come and visit Davidson River School anytime throughout the school year.
