Democratic

Women’s Club

At its meeting Monday, Aug. 24, the Democratic Women’s Club of Transylvania County will welcome Darlene Azarmi, Western N.C. Organizer for Democracy-North Carolina.

Democracy-North Carolina is a nonpartisan organization that uses research, organizing, and advocacy to increase voter participation, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and achieve a government that is truly of the people, by the people and for the people.

Azarmi’s program, “Voter ID in N.C .: Connecting the Dots,” will focus on the North Carolina Voter ID law, including the most recent legislation. She will also highlight what Democracy-North Carolina has been doing to address racial equity through their Civics of Justice Campaign, connecting that campaign to her review of recent court cases which have challenged the impact of legislation on voters’ rights.

The club meets at 11 a.m. at the Pisgah Fish Camp for a self-paid lunch, followed by the program, which begins at noon. A brief business meeting starts at 1 p.m. All women and men are welcome, regardless of political affiliation.
