Tigers Suit Up Against Shannon Forest Christian – Rosman NC

Freddie Whitman

The Rosman Tigers have the unusual task of facing a team with no resumé this Friday night when they host the visiting Crusaders of Shannon Forest Christian.

The game will be the first time Shannon Forest has fielded a varsity team, although they have had a junior varsity squad the past few seasons.

Despite the Crusaders having a limited roster (only 18 players) and little experience, Whitman said the game wouldn't be a walkover, as the opposition has solid athletes across the board.

"They're very athletic," Whitman said. "This game is no gimme. They're very athletic and very quick. Good size, too."

In terms of what to expect, Whitman said Shannon Forest likes to spread the field and work offensively out of the inverted wishbone formation.

The Tigers hosted the West Henderson Falcons in a scrimmage last week and Whitman said he saw lots to be optimistic about moving into the first week of play.

"I was very happy with the performance. We're still not where we need to be but I was very happy with our guys. I saw some really good signs," Whitman said.

Whitman has never lost a season opener as Tiger head coach. Looking ahead to Friday, he said the team has to execute what they've practiced over the past several weeks to achieve victory.

"We've got to do what we've been coached to do. We're getting better at the little things but we still have work to do," Whitman said.
