Friends and volunteers of the Rice Street Community Garden are gathering to celebrate this year's bountiful harvest and raise operating funds to keep the garden growing next year.

The Rice Street Community Garden's fourth annual party will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Miller Hall, St. Philip's Episcopal Church.

The garden's fresh organic produce goes to Bread of Life and Sharing House. As of Aug. 20, this year's harvest had already topped all previous records by hitting 928 pounds. The previous banner harvest for the whole season was 828 pounds.

Operating expenses include seeds and seedlings, water usage, soil amendments, straw, mowing costs, and garden supplies.

Wine and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served at the garden party, and tickets are $25 per person. Tickets will be sold at the church office, 9-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and starting Aug. 30 at Sunday services, or call Jayne Field at 577-6064.
