The Safest Place

Sitting in the Charlotte airport this morning, awaiting a flight to Minneapolis, I took a deep breath and relaxed. I realized I felt safe in a way I seldom feel any more when I walk down the street of our town or into a supermarket or restaurant, church or school, movie theater or public park.

And why? Because everyone sitting nearby or walking along has gone through a metal detector and in all likelihood is not carrying a gun. Can it be that the safest place in gun-crazy America today is at the gate of your flight?
