The Guardian, a major English newspaper, recently published statistics on the number of mass shootings in the United States between Jan. 1, 2013 and the most recent carnage in Oregon on Oct. 1. A mass shooting is defined as four or more people shot in a single incident.

There were 994 mass shootings in 1,004 days, nearly one a day over a period of 22 months. Surely a world record. Of those shot, 1,260 died while 3,606 were injured. And still we resist gun control in any form because our Congress is owned by the National Rifle Association.
