Court's Future Divides Public - Brevard NC


Moseley Architects has produced for the county drawings of what an addition to the current historic courthouse could look like. Current cost estimates to renovate the courthouse, plus the addition, and to build a parking deck are more than $16 million.

Opinions were divided Monday among those who spoke about the future of court operations in Transylvania County.

During its regular meeting, the Board of Commissioners set aside time to gather public input on the courthouse.

They heard calls from court and law enforcement officials to build a new courthouse because of security and other concerns, while others spoke about the current historic courthouse's role as the heart of the community and its social and economic impact.
