Pisgah Forest Woman Facing Drug Charges -Brevard NC

 


A Pisgah Forest woman is facing several drug charges after investigators said they found drugs in her home.

Shonna Elise Newton, 45, of 100 Shaggy Lane, was charged with possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling place for the purposes of a controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia for marijuana on Oct. 1.

Transylvania County Narcotics Task Force Det. Justin Bell said agents went to Newton’s home to serve a search warrant as a result of information gathered during a prior law enforcement response at the residence and other pieces of information gathered by the task force.

Inside the home, investigators found assorted controlled substances and items of drug paraphernalia in several rooms inside the home. According to Bell, agents seized a plastic bag containing marijuana seeds and a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue stashed in a top dresser drawer in a bedroom. Two glass pipes with marijuana residue, another glass pipe, a small plastic bag, a plastic vial with methamphetamine residue, a cigarette box with one other glass pipe, two metal pipes and another glass vial containing methamphetamine were stashed under a mattress.

A can containing a brass air tool fitting with marijuana residue and a plastic Tupperware container with methamphetamine residue were also found in the bedroom along with a metal box housing a broken glass marijuana pipe with a wooden dowel with marijuana residue on it located in a table next to the bed.

Upon further search, agents found a purse in the living room that contained a set of digital scales, methamphetamine and a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue. Another set of scales was found in a dining room with another glass pipe with methamphetamine residue.

Agents said they also found 19 small plastic bags commonly used to sell and distribute controlled substance, seven doses of Alprazolam, a plastic container with methamphetamine residue in the dining room. Another set of scales was found on a dining room table with a plastic vial containing methamphetamine residue.

Newton was taken to the Transylvania County Detention Center where she was later released after posting bail.
