Planners Eye Projected Population Spike Growth - Brevard NC


The CEDS report includes a look (above) at the region's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Also included are "fact sheets" of the five counties, including Transylvania (below), that make up the region and the region as a whole (bottom left).

By 2040, the overall population of five western North Carolina counties, including Transylvania, could increase by about 176,000 people.

By 2040, the population of Transylvania, Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, and Madison counties is projected to be about 634,000. In 2010, it was roughly 458,000.

Those population growth numbers have gotten the "attention" of regional planners like Erica Anderson and others. Anderson said this "fairly significant growth" is something she and others are "continually" thinking about and planning for.
