Nonprofits Tackling Hunger - Brevard NC

For this Thanksgiving, the Bread of Life cooked 52 donated turkeys and expects to serve more than 460 people.

"Transylvania County has an amazing community of people that really care," said Michael Collins, the nonprofit's director.

"The participation is what makes it," he said. "For me, it has to do with jobs and the living wage. We need more people making a living wage. Places like us help supplement income. Poverty affects the community. Hunger is a symptom. There's enough food in this county.

"People just don't have access to the food. It has to do with access. We can solve this."...
