Historic Taylor Hall Torn Down - Brevard NC

Work began this week on the demolition of Taylor Hall, a former student residence hall on the Brevard College campus.

The college decided to demolish the building, which was built in 1940, after it was discovered it would cost about $3.5 million to restore it before any renovation work could be done.

An engineer deemed the building unsafe due to extensive infrastructure damage caused by rot and termites.

In addition, unexpected asbestos was found in the interior waterproofing treatment used for the brick facade.

The cost to tear down Taylor Hall was estimated to be $250,000.
