Jobless Rate Increases Slightly – Brevard NC

 


Transylvania County’s jobless rate increased from 5.2 percent in October to 5.3 percent in November, according to preliminary figures from the state Department of Commerce.

The local jobless numbers only take into account those who qualify for unemployment benefits and have not been seasonally adjusted.

The statewide rate in November was 5.5 percent, the same as the previous month.

Jobless rates increased in 38 of the state’s 100 counties in November. It decreased in 37 and remained unchanged in 25.

Buncombe County’s jobless rate in November was 4.1 percent, while Haywood’s was 4.9 percent. Jackson was at 5.5 percent, and Henderson stood at 4.5 percent.

At 11.5 percent, Graham County was the highest in the state. Buncombe County had the lowest rate.

Out of 100 counties, Transylvania’s jobless rate was the 31st lowest in the state.

When compared to the same month last year, not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates increased in 63 counties, decreased in 23 and remained unchanged in 14.

The number of workers employed statewide this past November increased by 2,714 to 4,526,140, while those unemployed decreased 1,594 to 261,097. Since November 2014, the number of workers employed statewide increased 127,356, while those unemployed increased 11,705.
