Yellow Mountain Fire Tower

This week's destination hike is the Yellow Mountain fire tower above Lake Glenville. About an hour drive from Brevard, this stone foundation fire tower was built in 1934 by the U.S. forest service and the Civilian Conservation Corp.
Staffed until 1969, the fire tower sat in disrepair until about 1985 when forest service staff member Ron Carnes spearheaded a restoration effort. In 1992 the fire tower was recognized as
a National Historic Lookout.
