Students Learn About The Financial Realities – Brevard NC


At the "transportation" booth, students learned if they had good credit, he or she had more choices when it came to buying a vehicle and the interest rate was lower. If the student was married, he or she had to have two means of transportation.(Times photos by Michael Rogers)

Brevard Middle School students recently learned about the "Reality of Money."

The local State Employees Credit Union and community volunteers, such as retired teacher Sandy Rogers, led the project, created by the N.C. Credit Union Development Educators and designed for students in eighth through 12th grade.

During the exercise, students were assigned careers with set incomes and families of varying size and had to visit booths dealing with housing, transportation, child care, health care, clothing, credit cards, groceries, when "stuff happens," entertainment, communications, "next p...
