President, Not People, Nominates Judges


I am hearing a lot about the presumed right of the people to select the next Supreme Court Justice, the one to replace Antonin Scalia. First, let me say I was abashed that this quarrel started six days before Justice Scalia’s funeral. I was also greatly put off by Senator Mitch McConnell’s pronouncement that, again, his purpose for being in Washington is to oppose President Obama at all turns.
