Portion Of South Broad Street In Brevard Closed, Could Reopen Sunday Evening-Brevard NC

South Broad Street

Closure of South Broad Street started today (Friday) after the morning school traffic came through. Current plans are for the portion of South Broad Street to be open again for traffic by Sunday evening. The closure will be between Varsity Street and U.S. 64 West, also known as Rosman Highway, to the intersection of Country Club Road.

South Broad Street

As previously reported, the section of South Broad was supposed to be closed Thursday and Friday, but the Thursday closure didn't happen. At some point, one lane will be open to through traffic for roughly 14 days for traffic coming into downtown Brevard from U.S. 64 West and Varsity Street.

The "alley" between Caldwell and Broad streets, which runs by the side of SAFE's Attic, will be temporarily opened to through traffic during this time to ease the congestion. Drivers are asked to use caution as the alley is also used to drop-off donations at SAFE's Attic. The city is replacing 200 feet of sewer line on Miner Street, and then will cross South Broad and head toward downtown along the sidewalk to roughly just past the southern entrance (the bakery) to Park Village. Work will be dependent on the weather.
