Choral Society Begins Fundraising – Brevard NC

Many years ago, a number of county residents who loved to sing put together a group to perform at an arts festival in Brevard. That group became the Transylvania Choral Society. This group, open to all singers without audition, has entertained and enriched this community ever since.

Under the direction of Dr. David Gresham and pianist Patti Black, the society collectively spends more than 500 hours in rehearsals and preparation for concert performances each year. They will be joined by the Brevard College Chamber Singers, outstanding local soloists and musicians in Joseph Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass,” also known as “Missa in Augustiis” which his biographers consider his greatest work.

Presenting two concerts of world class sacred and secular music each year, the society makes a modest charge for concert tickets. But even with a sold out performance, tickets cover only 20 percent of the cost of producing exceptional concert experiences. The Transylvania Choral Society must rely on individuals and business donors for support.

Gifts to the Choral Society are tax deductible. Businesses or individuals may also underwrite an entire performance or advertise in the newly expanded concert program.

Monetary gifts will help to ensure the continued high quality of the program to be presented Sunday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Porter Center for Performing Arts.

Make donations to or mail donations to Transylvania Choral Society, Box 106, Brevard, NC 28712.

Donations can be accepted any time during the year, but donations received by April 10, 2016 will appear in the April 24 concert program. Donations received after April 10 will be recognized in the December concert program. For more information, contact Peggy Bayne, president, at
