Oren Eugene "Fat Cat" Matthews II

Oren Eugene “Fat Cat” Matthews II, 70, of Brevard went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Oren Eugene Matthews Sr. and Ruby Whitmire Matthews. A rock to his wife of 54 years, Patsy Chapman Matthews, he was her best of all friends, forever chauffeur, thrift store buddy, restaurant companion, a great provider and most of all, a Christian husband who she loved with all her heart, sharing a beautiful life together. She is glad and honored to have been his wife. “See you on down the road – our love forever.”

He was a wonderful father to his son, Shannon, teaching him many things that will live on forever.

Surviving in addition to his wife and son are two sisters-in-law, Freda McKelvey and Freida Chapman; nieces, Ronette Dill, Ranessa Thomas and Ranille McCall; nephews, Thad McKelvey and Milon Chapman; and two special cousins, Danny Allender and Sue Green.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in at Faith Baptist Church, Lake Toxaway, with Rev. Kyle Reese, Rev. Wayne Owen and Rev. Hank Moffitt officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
