Encouraging Boys To Become Better Readers

 


Boys who struggle with reading and literacy often struggle both in school and later in work life. Boys are lagging behind girls in school and have been for quite some time. More girls are graduating from high school and earning college degrees than boys.

This is true in many parts of the world, not only the U.S., and is especially evident in boys’ reading and writing skills. In the U.S. this gap is most apparent in boys who come from low income and/or single parent homes. Teachers all across the country are grappling with ways to help their male students become better readers and close...
