Legacy Run To Include Half Marathon – Brevard NC

Saturday, April 30, hundreds of runners and walkers will converge in the Heart of Brevard to support local charity Inheritance of Hope. In its 4th year, the Hunter Subaru Legacy Run serves as a fundraiser for Inherit-ance of Hope, a Pisgah Forest based nonprofit that inspires hope in young families facing the loss of a parent.

New this year is Brevard’s first-ever half marathon. With the longer race length, Inheritance of Hope is encouraged by the response from runners beyond Brevard.

“As a member of the Brevard Chamber of Commerce, we understand the importance of bringing new people to our incredible community,” said Deric Milligan, CEO and co-founder of Inheritance of Hope.

“With the help of Clark Lovelace and the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority, we’ve reached out to surrounding communities to come experience ‘The Land of Waterfalls.’ We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful area and it’s worth sharing with others. We hope visitors fall in love with our town and come back,” said Milligan.

The Brevard community has rallied around the event too. The Hunter Subaru Legacy Run is only possible because of generous community sponsors.

“It is inspiring to see our Brevard rally around the families we serve, and we are very grateful,” said Milligan.

Students from Brevard High School and members from First United Metho-dist Church will be volunteering on the course. The S.M.A.R.T. girls and boys from the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club will also participate again this year. Brevard Mayor Jimmy Harris will be part of the pre-race festivities.

All proceeds of the community event go toward hosting more families at a Legacy Retreat, an all-expenses-paid experience where families create lifelong memories and receive tools to navigate the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness.

The half marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. with a 5K at 8:30 a.m. and Kid’s Fun Run at 10 a.m.

The race begins and ends at 123 E. Main St. in Brevard by the State Farm - Meredith Baldridge parking lot.

Registration includes tech race shirts (first come, first serve), lunch from Food Matters Market, finisher’s medals (Half & 5K), awards, and raffle prizes.
