Blue Devils Come Up Just Short In State Title Bid – Brevard NC

Brevard's Liam Baer celebrates after coming from one set down to beat his opponent in a third set tiebreaker at the number two singles spot in Saturday's 2A dual team championship in Chapel Hill. Joseph Schrader continued his dominant run in singles play as Brevard's top player. The reigning 2A singles champion won 6-2, 6-3 in his match. The Blue Devils and the N.C. School of Science and Math had dueled back and forth all day, but the Unicorns ultimately took the state title by a final score of 5-4. It was a roller coaster of a day for the Brevard Blue Devil boys' tennis team Saturday in Chapel Hill.

From being down early, to almost being out, to rallying back to tie the score, to being down again, to facing a winner-take-all scenario in the final doubles match of the day.

Unfortunately, when the ride came to a halt, the team found themselves coming up agonizingly short of their first state title, as they fell to the N.C. School of Science and Math (NCSSM), 5-4, in the 2A state finals.

It was the third consecutive runner-up finish for a Blue Devil team that had lost just once all...
