Tornado Athletes Make Honor Roll – Brevard NC

Eighty-eight Brevard College student-athletes have been named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, helping the league set a new record with 1,555 student-athletes honored.

To be eligible for inclusion in the prestigious list, student-athletes must compete in a sport sponsored by the conference and maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA.

“SAC student-athletes are among the most well-rounded individuals on their respective campuses,” said Commissioner Patrick Britz. “I’m extremely proud of the efforts made by our student-athletes and support staffs in making 2015-16 another record-breaking year in the classroom. We had 226 more honorees this year than in 2014-15, so I think it's safe say our vision of preparing our student-athletes academically as well as athletically is a reality."

Over 27 percent of eligible Brevard student-athletes were named to the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll this season, reflecting their commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as on the field of play.

“We’re so proud of these student-athletes for their high level of academic achievement,” said Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Services Jamie Atkinson. “Many of these 88 student-athletes are well-rounded individuals that serve as Resident Advisors, team captains, or have a job in addition to playing on a team.

“We’re committed to our student-athletes continuing to gain this type of recognition in the future. Thanks to [Associate Dean for Student Success] Shirley Arnold and her hard work creating new programs, we’ve given our students more tools than ever to be successful in the classroom.”

Brevard’s women’s soccer team had 16 honorees to pace the Tornados, with volleyball (12) and men’s soccer (9) finishing second and third, respectively.
