Transylvania's Jobless Rate Increases In June - Brevard NC

 


Transylvania County’s jobless rate in June was 4.9 percent, up from 4.5 percent in May, according to preliminary figures from the state Department of Commerce.

The local jobless numbers only take into account those who qualify for unemployment benefits and have not been seasonally adjusted.

The statewide rate in June was 5.2 percent, up from from 4.7 percent the previous month.

Transylvania’s jobless rate in June of 2015 was 5.9 percent.

Jobless rates increased in 96 of the state’s 100 counties in June and decreased in four.

Buncombe County’s jobless rate in June was 3.9 percent, while Haywood’s was 4.5 percent.

Jackson was at 5.6 percent, and Henderson stood at 4.3 percent.

Transylvania had the 24th lowest jobless rate in the state.

At 9.2 percent, Scotland County had the highest in the state.

Buncombe County had the lowest rate.

When compared to the same month last year, not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates decreased in all 100 counties.

The number of workers employed statewide in June decreased by 16,521 to 4.6 million, while those unemployed increased by 20,931 to 250,385.

Since June 2015, the number of workers employed statewide increased by 98,317, while those unemployed decreased by 44,144.
